I'm usually wrong, of course, as my columns about Mayor Mark Green, Vice President Max Cleland and Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend will attest, but for what it's worth, here's what I think will happen on Tuesday.
Democrats will win back the House. Not sure about the Senate. I think George Allen will win; all that claptrap he's been saying is appealing to his base, racist crackers that they are. I don't see Tennessee electing a black Senator; again the Republicans were going after their core supporters with that sleazeball TV ad. I think Menendez will lose, speaking of sleazeballs, and I wouldn't be surprised if Lincoln Chafee hung in there, though I think that's unlikely.
So basically, I agree with everyone else, from Rothenberg to Sabato and all the self-absorbed Washingtonians in between. Democratic gains between 20 and 30, maybe more, in the House, four to six in the Senate though I think it might be as few as three.
But again, given my record, I'd bet on a Democratic tsunami or a Republican miracle...
